A contemporary watercolor and gouache portrait of the film icon Marilyn Monroe. The work depicts the subject smiling, adorned with a black feathered headdress and strappy black costume details against a pale blue background. The artist has employed a realistic, illustrative technique with smooth tonal transitions in the skin and opaque gouache highlights used for the teeth and eye reflections. The painting is signed ‘Barbara’ in dark ink and dated ‘2000’ to the lower right. The surrounding cream-coloured mat also bears the signature ‘Barbara :’ in pencil to the lower right. The artwork is presented in a glazed wooden frame with a silvered, distressed linear finish.
