A large hand-knotted Persian? rug, likely of wool? or silk? construction on a cotton? foundation. The carpet features a prominent central hexagonal medallion with a cream ground, decorated with dense, intricate floral scrollwork and scrolling vine motifs in shades of blue and brown. This medallion is set against a vibrant red field, which is enclosed by a series of decorative borders. The primary wide border contains repeating floral bouquets and scrolling foliate patterns, flanked by narrower secondary borders featuring geometric and vine motifs. The rug terminates in a cream fringe at both ends, which appears to be the extension of the cotton? warp threads. The design follows a symmetrical, medallion-based composition characteristic of traditional city-produced rugs from regions such as Kirman? or Mashad?.
