Art Deco style ceramic figural bookends produced by Duron of London and Manchester. Each bookend features a stylised bust in profile—one depicting a man and the other a woman—rendered in a high-gloss black glaze. Both figures are adorned with contrasting cream-coloured headwraps that drape over the shoulder and onto the integral rectangular base. The figures exhibit the smooth, streamlined aesthetic characteristic of the mid-20th-century period. The underside of one base is incised with the model number 6010 and the registration mark Reg No 836679, which corresponds to a British design registration from approximately 1939-1940. The ceramic body is finished with a reflective, glossy glaze throughout the black-pigmented areas, providing a sharp contrast to the matte appearance of the headwraps.
