A 19th-century French ebonised mantel clock of architectonic, rectangular form. The case is decorated with gilt-line detailing to the front and side panels, surmounted by an ornate brass carrying handle. The white enamel dial features Roman numeral hour markers and blued-steel hands, bearing the printed inscription ‘LEROY A PARIS’. The brass-toned mechanical movement, visible through the rear, is stamped with the characters ‘LEROY A PARIS’ and ‘G 20’, and incorporates a striking bell. Affixed to the interior of the wooden back panel is a rectangular paper retailer’s label reading ‘W. J. NORRIS, WATCHMAKER, &c., 168, LONDON ROAD, KIRKLEY, LOWESTOFT.’, with further handwritten notations including ‘Nov 06’ and ‘64067’.
