A hand-knotted Northwest Persian? wool carpet, likely originating from the Mahal? or Sultanabad? region and dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece features an ivory field decorated with an all-over repeating grid pattern of stylised floral shrubs, blossoms, and foliate motifs in shades of indigo blue, rust red, and ochre. The main border consists of a vibrant rust-red band featuring a continuous pattern of stylised floral medallions, flanked by multiple inner and outer guard borders in contrasting indigo blue and cream with geometric and floral vine scrolls. The rug is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation with a medium density weave, consistent with village-made examples from the Arak district.
