A collection of UK pre-decimal coins dating from the mid-20th century, comprising shillings and sixpences from the reigns of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. The shillings include both English and Scottish reverse types, featuring the three lions passant guardant and the lion rampant crests respectively. The sixpences feature the floral cross design incorporating the rose, thistle, shamrock, and leek. The coins are struck in silver-coloured metal, consisting of 50 per cent silver for issues dated between 1920 and 1946, and cupro-nickel for those dated 1947 and later. Obverse portraits include the uncrowned effigy of George VI and the laureate bust of Elizabeth II. Inscriptions on earlier specimens include IND IMP for Indiae Imperator. Visible dates include 1950, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, and 1960. The coins are presented in two clear plastic album sleeves.
Several hand-written labels and inserts are present within the sleeves: three white paper inserts reading ‘NONE MINTED’, two white adhesive labels reading ‘1225’, a white paper insert reading ‘Book 2’, a yellow adhesive label reading ‘Sheet 3’, a yellow adhesive label reading ‘Sheet 5’, and a yellow adhesive label reading ‘1934 to 1966 Scotch 120’.
