This set of four watercolours with pen and ink on paper features nostalgic mid-twentieth-century street scenes of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The scenes include recognisable local landmarks such as Fargate and Sheffield Cathedral. Each work is executed in a detailed figurative style, capturing period details such as vintage trams, double-decker buses, and figures in mid-century attire. Various commercial signs are rendered within the compositions, including WARD’S FINE ALES, WINES AND SPIRITS, WIGFALLS, and BENNETT FOOTWEAR. Each painting is signed Terry Gorman in cursive in the lower margin. The work depicting Fargate is further inscribed FARGATE ’78 in the lower-left corner. The artworks are presented in matching dark wood frames with a gilded inner slip and sage green overmounts.
