A circular Victorian sterling silver presentation salver featuring a gadrooned rope-twist rim and supported on three bracket feet. The face of the salver is decorated with a wide border of chased and engraved foliate scrolls, acanthus leaves, and floral motifs. The central field bears a presentation inscription in cursive script: Presented to Mr. G. A. H. P. by the Newport Agricultural Society as a tribute for his kindness in allowing the use of his Fields for their first Show held 29th JULY 1858. The underside is struck with a full set of British hallmarks for the London Assay Office, including the lion passant for sterling silver, the uncrowned leopard head, the Gothic capital letter C for 1858, and the duty mark of Queen Victoria. The maker mark consists of SR over IED within a diamond-shaped punch, attributed to the partnership of Samuel Roberts and Joseph Edwards.
