A mid-20th-century precision analytical balance, Model A.D.4, manufactured by Stanton Instruments Ltd., London. The instrument is housed within a mahogany-framed glass case featuring a rising front panel for access. The internal mechanism is constructed primarily from brass and polished steel, comprising a central beam system supported by a vertical pillar. The balance is fitted with two large cylindrical air-damping pots and two suspended metal weighing pans. An external weight-selection mechanism finished in black is mounted to the side, featuring a graduated rotating dial. A metal maker’s plate is affixed to the front wooden frame and is printed with: MODEL A.D.4. STANTON INSTRUMENTS LTD LONDON. MADE IN ENGLAND. The plate also includes a circular logo containing a stylised S and a triangle. The internal brass beam support is engraved with STANTON and LONDON on the left-hand side.
