An oil painting on a rigid support, possibly copper or board, depicting the Madonna and Child in a traditional devotional composition in the manner of Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrata. The Virgin Mary is rendered in a dark blue mantle over a red tunic, cradling the infant Christ who is depicted with a radiant spiked halo. A third figure, partially obscured, is visible at the lower edge of the composition. The work is housed in an ornate, heavily moulded gilt frame decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves and shell motifs at the corners. The verso features a printed paper trade label that reads: CARVERS & GILDERS / Picture Makers & Restorers / ENGLAND / BEVELLED GLASS OLD FRAMES REGILDED.
