Buyer's Premium:

A Japanese ceramic tea bowl or large sake cup, likely dating from the Meiji or Taisho period. The bowl features a slightly tapered form on a raised, unglazed footring. The exterior is finished with a greyish-buff glaze showing a fine network of crackle, known as kannyu. One side is decorated with a hand-painted figurative scene within a rectangular gold-bordered cartouche, depicting figures in traditional Japanese dress, including one observing a screen. The opposite side is inscribed with several vertical columns of flowing calligraphic script in black ink. The interior is finished with a smooth, cream-coloured glaze. No maker or factory marks are visible on the base.
