A Japanese porcelain dish dating from the late 19th-century Meiji Period, decorated in the Kutani style. The dish features a characteristic terracotta-red ground, known as aka-e, with hand-painted central motifs of a crane in flight, a butterfly, and yellow floral sprays with raised white enamel highlights. The inner rim is finished with a delicate blue and white lace-pattern border. The ceramic dish is presented in a decorative metal mount, likely of European manufacture, featuring a pierced openwork gallery and two cast handles in the form of stylized dragons or mythical creatures.
