A rectangular Persian Khatam-kari (micro-mosaic) trinket box. The exterior and interior surfaces are extensively decorated with intricate geometric marquetry, featuring repeating six-pointed star and floral motifs. The inlay is composed of fine rods of wood, bone, and brass. The hinged lid centres a hand-painted panel in the Persian miniature style, depicting a polo match (chogan) with riders on horseback in a landscape setting. This central panel is bordered by decorative inlaid frames. The interior of both the lid and the base are fully lined with matching geometric inlay. The box is raised on four stepped wooden feet. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
