An antique yellow metal swivel fob seal featuring a rectangular carnelian stone set within a rotating frame. The frame and shoulders of the swivel are decorated with chased diagonal texturing. The seal is suspended from a large, functional spring-ring fastener, also known as a bolt ring. The yellow metal exhibits a warm tone and patina consistent with gold-casing or low-carat gold. No hallmarks or maker’s marks are visible. These objects were traditionally used as tools for sealing wax correspondence and were commonly worn as accessories on pocket watch chains.
