The circular bowl is mounted on a spreading pedestal foot. The exterior surface exhibits a textured hammered appearance, while the interior is polished. The side of the bowl bears a detailed engraved presentation inscription: R.H. WILLIS ESQ. as a token of regard FROM THE LANCS. CHES. & N. STAFFS. BRANCH OF THE A.M.E.E. JULY 1920. The acronym A.M.E.E. refers to the Association of Mining Electrical Engineers. Full British hallmarks are struck to the side near the rim, comprising the lion passant for sterling silver purity, the leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, the date letter d for 1919, and the maker’s mark B & S Ld for Barker & Son Ltd.
