This cast metal sculpture, likely bronze, depicts a hunting dog, possibly a setter or pointer, in a focused scenting or pointing stance. Rendered in the nineteenth-century Animalier style, the figure features a heavily textured surface to represent fur and is finished with a dark brown patina. The patina shows characteristic age-related wear, including traces of greenish oxidation in the deeper recesses and lighter copper-toned highlights on the raised relief where the finish has thinned. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular, bevel-edged plinth of grey-veined white marble. The work is unsigned and bears no visible foundry marks or edition numbers. The overall design is consistent with decorative objects produced in the manner of French sculptor Pierre-Jules Mène.
