A hand-carved wooden sculptural group in the style of Cameroon tribal art, depicting a stylised recumbent human figure secured to a rounded rectangular wooden base. The piece is hand-carved from a single piece of dark, dense wood. The figure features an oversized domed head decorated with a carved triangular motif on the crown, simplified facial features showing closed slit eyes, a nose, and an open mouth. The rounded torso displays a prominent umbilical node, with bent arms and legs carved alongside the body showing simplified hands and feet. A length of hand-twisted natural fibre rope is threaded through two hand-drilled apertures in the base and knotted around the figure’s neck. The surface of both the figure and base shows extensive hand-carving marks, including faceted adze and chisel cuts.
Length of base: approximately 34 cm.
