A vintage telescopic surveyor’s levelling staff of professional quality. The instrument is constructed from mahogany with protective brass sleeves and locking mechanisms at the joints. The measuring face features a white-painted surface with a standard metric E pattern scale in alternating black and red blocks. The scale is graduated in decimetres, with numerical markings visible from 02 through to 42. The staff is composed of multiple telescopic wooden sections designed to slide within one another. A small, circular white label is present on the side of one section, although the text is faded and illegible. This style of mahogany and brass staff was a standard piece of equipment for British surveyors and engineers throughout the mid-20th century.
