A collection of late 19th and early 20th-century studio portrait photographs, primarily in Carte de Visite and Cabinet Card formats. The assortment comprises formal portraits of individuals and small groups, including infants in formal gowns, men in waistcoats and suits, and women in elaborate Victorian dresses and mourning attire. A notable inclusion is a hand-tinted card titled Welsh Peasants depicting figures in traditional costume. The photographs feature a range of regional studios primarily located in the North of England and the West Riding of Yorkshire. Printed marks on the mounts identify photographers including E. Gregson of Halifax and Blackpool, G. S. Haigh of Blackpool, W. Mandas of Grimsby (bearing a Royal Appointment crest), Rawnsley of Halifax, G. B. Rhodes of Sheffield, A. and G. Taylor of Bradford, Gibbs and Co of Middlesbrough, Photographic Company of Accrington, George Beck of Sheffield, W. M. Hilton of Halifax, and Manley of Brighouse. The cards are constructed from albumen or silver gelatin prints mounted on heavy cardstock, many featuring decorative lithographed reverses for the respective studios.
