This lot comprises a framed commemorative propaganda print from the Third Reich era, produced for the 50th birthday of Adolf Hitler in 1939. The print features a colourised photographic portrait of Hitler in a political uniform with a swastika armband. To the right of the image is a quote in German Fraktur script: Man bettelt nicht um sein Recht! Für sein Recht streitet man! (One does not beg for one’s right! For one’s right, one fights!), attributed to Adolf Hitler. Below this is the commemorative text: Zum 50. Geburtstag des Führers. (On the occasion of the Führer’s 50th birthday.) followed by the organisational text: Volksdeutsches Kameradschaftsopfer der deutschen Jugend. Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland. (Ethnic German Comradeship Sacrifice of the German Youth. League for Germanism Abroad.). This print was issued as part of a fundraising campaign by the VDA (Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland) and German youth organisations to mark the occasion. The print is mounted on a red background and housed in a black frame with a silvered inner edge, under glass.
