This oil on canvas painting depicts a pastoral autumnal river scene executed in a nineteenth-century style. The composition features a prominent, gnarled tree in the left foreground and a small, red-roofed cottage nestled among trees on the far bank. The work is signed in the lower left corner L CAFIERI. The artist has utilised a combination of soft blending for the background and sky, with more textured, impasto brushwork used to define the foliage and foreground undergrowth. The canvas is stretched over a wooden frame and is housed in an ornate, gilded swept frame with scrolling acanthus leaf corner and centre mouldings. The verso of the frame is stamped with the reference FR 7834 and the dimensions 24 X 36.
