Edward Ladell (1821-1886), oil on canvas still life. The composition portrays a variety of fruit including a peach, strawberries, and clusters of red and white grapes, alongside a large pink rose and autumnal vine leaves, all resting upon a stone ledge. Two pieces of glassware are positioned in the background: a tall flute and a green roemer glass with a decorated stem. The work is executed with the fine detail and naturalistic colour characteristic of the Victorian artist. The painting is housed in an ornate gilded gesso frame featuring rococo-style scroll and shell motifs. The reverse of the painting features a wooden stretcher with a partially torn brown paper backing. Two labels are present on the stretcher bars: a typed label stating The Tazza. E.Ladell. and a gallery label for Maudslay Fine Art Ltd.
