A Victorian sterling silver open-faced pocket watch by J.G. Graves of Sheffield, known as The Express English Lever. The watch features a white enamel dial with black Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track, and a subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position. The dial is signed in black and red text: THE EXPRESS ENGLISH LEVER, J.G. GRAVES, SHEFFIELD. It is fitted with ornate gold-tone hour and minute hands and a blued steel seconds hand. The silver case displays a coin-edge finish to the middle and a polished back. The interior of the case back is struck with Birmingham hallmarks including the walking lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and the date letter u for 1894. The maker’s mark J.G over G is present for John George Graves. The case is further stamped with the serial number 587449. The movement is a key-wound English lever type protected by a secondary gilt brass cover.
