A glazed earthenware figural spill vase, in the Staffordshire style, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece features a grey-glazed elephant standing beside a hollowed tree trunk which serves as a spill holder. The elephant is adorned with an orange saddle cloth or caparison, detailed with a green and white border. The tree trunk is textured to resemble bark and has a bright orange glazed interior. The entire scene is mounted on an oval, textured base with earth-toned glazes. The recessed underside of the base is unglazed and lacks any visible manufacturer marks or stamps.
