Another Great Auction
A large collection of hand-carved tropical hardwood animal figures and decorative objects, primarily depicting African savanna wildlife. The assembly includes various species such as elephants in several sizes, giraffes, rhinoceroses, gazelles, antelopes, a water buffalo, and a zebra with painted stripes. The carvings are executed in a vernacular folk-art style, frequently utilising the natural contrast between the dark heartwood and lighter sapwood of the timber. Supplemental items include carved wooden bowls, a small figurative sculpture, and an elephant-themed bookend. A white rectangular label printed with the numerals 1001 is affixed to the rump of one large elephant and another item in the blue crate, likely representing an auction lot number. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
