Another Great Auction
A matched pair of mirror-image seated spaniel figurines, traditionally referred to as hearth dogs or Wally dugs, modelled in the Staffordshire style. The figures are constructed from hollow-cast glazed white earthenware. Each dog features relief-moulded fur details accented with gilded swirl motifs, alongside a moulded collar and lead chain finished in gold. The facial features are hand-painted, including black-rimmed eyes and a black nose with a yellow and orange muzzle. A small circular vent hole is located on the reverse of the neck on each figurine, typical of the casting process. The reverse of the bodies is finished in a plain white glaze.
