Another Great Auction
A set of twenty-four ceramic spice jars from the Village collection by Brooks and Bentley, complete with boxes. Each jar is modelled as a miniature building representing various architectural styles including cottages, shops, and townhouses. The jars are constructed from glazed white ceramic and feature removable roofs that serve as lids. Decoration is applied via polychrome transfer-printed architectural details and foliate wreaths enclosing the names of twenty-four different spices: oregano, onion, ginger, rosemary, nutmeg, pepper, parsley, sage, mustard, paprika, clove, saffron, chive, allspice, basil, coriander, garlic, cinnamon, dill, marjoram, tarragon, thyme, bay, and celery. The base of each jar features a circular gold foil mark reading BROOKS AND BENTLEY with a central ampersand and is dated 1991.
