Another Great Auction
A Victorian cut crystal decanter of bulbous form, featuring a sterling silver-mounted collar and a faceted spherical stopper. The silver collar is struck with a clear set of English hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay Office, including the anchor symbol, the lion passant for sterling silver purity, and the profile duty mark of Queen Victoria. The date letter c corresponds to the year 1877. The maker mark H.S is attributed to Henry Stratford. The crystal body is decorated with intricate hand-cut patterns, including a wide band of diamond or hobnail cutting on the lower section, a finer band of cross-hatching at the shoulder, and vertical flute cuts extending up the neck. The faceted spherical stopper features matching decorative work and is original to the piece. The crystal exhibits high clarity and a high lead content.
Height: 28.5 cm.
