Another Great Auction
A mid-19th century Parian porcelain figure representing Dorothea, a character from Miguel de Cervantes’ novel Don Quixote. The figure is depicted in a reclining pose on a rocky outcrop, dressed in a loose tunic with a tied bundle and a single discarded shoe at her feet. The piece is crafted from matte, unglazed white porcelain designed to emulate the appearance of carved marble. This specific model was designed by the sculptor John Bell (1811-1895) for Minton and was first exhibited in 1847. No factory marks, signatures, or model numbers are visible on the base of this example.
