Another Great Auction
This sculpture depicts a 17th-century gentleman or cavalier, featuring a wide-brimmed hat with a prominent plume, a moustache, and a goatee. The bust is cast from a base metal, likely spelter, and finished with a dark bronzed-effect patina. It is mounted on an integral rectangular plinth decorated with relief-cast foliate and fleur-de-lis motifs. There are no visible signatures, foundry marks, or inscriptions on the piece. The interior and areas of surface loss reveal a lighter-coloured metallic substrate.
