Another Great Auction
A 19th-century Grand Tour style bronze sculpture depicting a standing, semi-draped putto or cherub intently reading from an open book held in both hands. The figure is cast in bronze with a rich dark brown patina, featuring detailed rendering of the curly hair and light drapery around the waist. The integral circular bronze base is incised to the front with the characters U F F I Z I, identifying it as a reduced-scale copy after a sculpture held in the collection of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The sculpture is mounted on a separate, larger, tiered and turned pedestal base with a matching dark finish. The casting shows good definition throughout.
32 cm (total height).
