An oval shell cameo pendant suspended from a fine 9ct yellow gold chain. The pendant features a hand-carved shell cameo depicting a classical profile of a lady, shown with detailed wavy hair adorned with a flower and wearing a draped garment. The portrait is carved in relief from cream-coloured shell against a reddish-brown cornelian shell ground. The cameo is set within a 9ct yellow gold frame featuring a decorative, engraved foliate border, secured by four flat prongs. The pendant is fitted with a tapered polished bail and is suspended from a fine yellow gold trace-link chain. The side of the pendant frame bears British hallmarks, including the punch 375 for 9 carat gold. The item is presented in a red period-style jeweller’s box with a cream velvet and silk-lined interior.
