Another Great Auction
A late Victorian sterling silver cream jug of George III pedestal form, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1900, by the silversmiths Synyer and Beddoes. The jug is constructed with a bulbous body featuring a central applied girdle and a wide pouring spout. It is fitted with a simple C-scroll loop handle and stands upon a circular spreading pedestal foot. The exterior of the body is engraved with the initials J.A.B. in a serif font. The hallmarks struck on the upper body near the rim consist of the maker mark SB in a shaped cartouche for Synyer and Beddoes, the lion passant certifying the piece as solid sterling silver, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the lowercase date letter a representing the year 1900.
