A George V sterling silver pedestal dish, also known as a compote or tazza, of circular form. The item features a wide border decorated with intricate pierced openwork consisting of scrolling foliage and fleur-de-lis motifs interspersed with lattice patterns. The dish has a scalloped, moulded rim and is supported by a matching circular pedestal foot with a corresponding scalloped edge. The interior of the bowl bears a clear set of English hallmarks including the maker mark M & W for Mappin and Webb, the crown symbol for the Sheffield Assay Office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the uppercase date letter D denoting the year 1921.
