Another Great Auction
A late Victorian sterling silver vesta case of rectangular form with rounded corners. The exterior is decorated with engraved alternating diagonal bands of engine-turned cross-hatching and plain polished stripes. The front face features a central circular cartouche with a foliate border, engraved with a scrolling monogram. The case is fitted with a side-hinged lid, a small suspension ring for a watch chain, and a serrated striking plate to the base. Hallmarks are located on the interior lip of the body. The hallmarks include the maker mark WN for William Neale, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter y for 1898.
