Another Great Auction
A George VI sterling silver mustard pot designed in the traditional George II tankard style. The piece features a tapered cylindrical drum body with a flat-topped hinged lid and a scrolled thumbpiece. It is equipped with an S-scroll handle which terminates in a heart-shaped shield at the lower join. The body and the interior of the lid are clearly hallmarked. The hallmarks consist of the maker mark CJV over LTD within a rectangular shield for C. J. Vander Ltd, the lion passant standard mark for sterling silver, the leopard head assay mark for London, and the lowercase serif date letter d for the year 1939. The interior of the vessel is clean silver and does not contain a glass liner.
