Buyer's Premium:

An oil on canvas painting signed Cesare, after the well-known composition titled The Tasting by the Italian artist Alessandro Sani (1856-1927). The work depicts a humorous genre scene set in a kitchen, featuring two jovial friars. One monk, dressed in a brown habit, is shown tasting pasta from a plate, while his companion, wearing a white apron over dark robes, holds a large copper cooking pot and looks on with an amused expression. The painting is executed in a realistic academic style with fine, blended brushwork that captures the metallic sheen of the copper pot and the weathered, expressive facial features of the figures. A signature in red pigment is located in the lower right corner, transcribed as Cesare. The work is housed in a substantial and ornate gilded frame with elaborate moulded scrolling and foliate decoration. No labels or inscriptions are visible on the reverse of the canvas as currently framed.
