The exterior is covered in brown leather with brass hardware, including a central lock and a leather-wrapped carrying handle. The interior is fitted with red baize lining and divided into separate compartments for the barrel, stock, and accessories. A printed paper maker’s label is attached to the inner lid, detailed as follows: ESTABLISHED 1890, G. J. SMITHSON, 25 YEARS WITH HORSLEY & SON, YORK., Practical Gun and Rifle Maker, DEALER IN ALL SPORTING REQUISITES, 6, Scot Lane, DONCASTER., NATIONAL TELEPHONE No. 1 X 3. The label also displays an armorial crest featuring the motto CONFORT ET LIESSE.
