Another Great Auction
A pair of figurines in cream-glazed ceramic, likely earthenware, depicting a man and a woman in 18th-century provincial or pastoral dress. The male figure is modelled wearing a tricorn hat, frock coat, knee breeches, and stockings, carrying a bucket in one hand and a bag over his shoulder. The female figure is depicted wearing a headscarf, a laced bodice, and a long skirt with an apron, carrying a basket in her right hand while holding a small object in her left. Both figures are set upon integral circular bases featuring moulded and pierced rococo-style scrollwork. The underside of the base bears a blue underglaze mark consisting of script characters, possibly B and G or S, flanking a central cross with additional characters above and below. The glaze exhibits fine, overall crazing throughout.
