Another Great Auction
A 19th-century handwritten manuscript songbook, titled Chansonnier on a calligraphically decorated title page. The volume is attributed to Jean-Pierre, identified on the title page as a member of the 3e Régiment de Tirailleurs algens (3rd Regiment of Algerian Sharpshooters). The manuscript contains numerous pages of handwritten French song lyrics and poetry, organised into numbered stanzas or couplets. Notable titles include Le puits d Amour and Un Berceau. The title page features elaborate pen-and-ink flourishes and borders, with No 5080 inscribed in the upper left corner and a cursive signature, appearing to read N. G., in the lower right. The text is written in a neat cursive hand on lined paper. The volume is bound in heavily soiled cloth-covered boards with the name Jean-Pierre written in faint script on the front cover.
