Another Great Auction
A fine porcelain collector plate produced for Danbury Mint to commemorate fifty years of the Beano comic character Dennis the Menace. The plate features a central transfer-printed illustration depicting Dennis and his dog Gnasher in a wooden soapbox go-kart. This central scene is encircled by a radial arrangement of comic strip panels showing various classic scenarios. The edge of the plate is finished with a gold-tone gilt rim. The reverse of the plate features a comprehensive printed backstamp in black ink, which includes The Beano Official Product Plate Collection logo and text stating Licensed to the Manufacturer by D.C. Thomson and Co., Ltd. It further includes copyright information dated 2001 and a facsimile signature for Danbury Mint. The base is also marked with the warning A work of art not intended for food use. The item is accompanied by its original Certificate of Authenticity, which is hand-numbered 1364 and identifies the subject as Dennis the Menace. The plate is housed in its original two-part protective polystyrene packaging.
