A heavy brass desk weight of square section featuring bevelled edges and a central spherical finial. The upper surface is stamped with capital letters reading H.M.S FANTOME. HMS Fantome was a Cadmus-class sloop launched in 1901 that served as a surveying vessel in Australasian and South Pacific waters until 1925. The object is constructed from solid brass and exhibits a natural aged patina. It likely functioned as a paperweight or was fashioned as a commemorative piece.
