This novelty bottle opener is fashioned in the form of a Laughing Buddha (Budai), depicted in a traditional standing pose with arms raised. The space between the hands serves as the functional cap lifter. The object is made from a cast silver-toned metal, possibly a pewter alloy, and features simplified sculptural details. A dark patina has been applied to the recessed areas to highlight the face, robes, and anatomy of the figure. The reverse of the piece continues the garment detailing. The item is unmarked, with no visible maker’s name, hallmarks, or country of origin.
