Another Great Auction
A George V sterling silver capstan-style inkwell manufactured by the silversmiths Walker and Hall. The piece features a characteristic broad, circular weighted base that tapers upwards to a central neck with a hinged circular lid. The interior of the lid and the internal ink receptacle are gilded. The upper surface of the base is struck with a full set of British hallmarks including the maker’s mark W & H for Walker and Hall, the lion passant mark for .925 sterling silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, and the lowercase date letter t for 1918. The base also bears the retailer’s mark B&Co and is stamped FILLED.
