Another Great Auction
A 19th-century case of elongated form with rounded ends, constructed from highly figured burr wood, such as walnut or amboyna. The exterior displays a rich, polished patina and intricate natural grain patterns throughout. The flush-fitting hinged lid is inset with a central oval mother-of-pearl plaque. The interior is finished to the same high standard as the exterior, revealing the internal grain of the wood. The proportions and form are characteristic of a Victorian spectacles case, though the construction is similar to that of contemporary snuff boxes.
