A 19th-century German carved wood and bone figurine of an itinerant one-man band musician, likely produced in the Erzgebirge or Black Forest regions. The characterful figure is depicted in a dynamic pose with an expressive, open-mouthed expression, wearing a tattered top hat and a buttoned coat. He carries a large bass drum on his back with an attached cymbal. The main body, clothing, and drum are carved from dark ebonised wood, contrasted by bone or ivory elements for the face, hands, feet, drum skins, and cymbals. The figurine is mounted on a turned, circular ebonised wooden base. The underside features a fragment of a German language printed paper label in Fraktur script, containing text from the Wisdom of Solomon, Chapter 5, Verses 2-6.
Height: 15 cm.
