Another Great Auction
A Victorian electro-plated biscuit barrel of cylindrical form by Henry Wilkinson and Co of Sheffield. The item features a hinged lid and is permanently attached to a flared circular base. The exterior surfaces are elaborately decorated with chased and repoussé work, displaying multiple cartouches. These panels contain floral and fruit motifs, including roses, various blossoms, and textured designs resembling pineapples, all bordered by scrolling foliage and diaper patterns. The lid is similarly decorated and topped with a dome-shaped finial. The base incorporates a pierced vertical gallery and is supported by three decorative scroll feet. The base is struck with a series of pseudo-hallmarks including a gothic-style letter S within a shield, the letters EP within an oval, a shield containing a bird-like crest, a gothic-style letter M within a shield, and a two-line mark with the letters HW over and Co.
