Another Great Auction
A collection of six graduated bronze animal weights, traditionally identified as opium weights, of Southeast Asian origin, likely from Burma or Thailand. The set comprises two figures in the form of elephants and four in the form of stylised birds, traditionally termed Hintha or Hamza birds. Each piece is cast integrally with a pedestal base using the lost-wax casting method. One bird weight exhibits short, vertical incised lines on the side of the base, possibly acting as tally marks. No maker marks, dates, or manufacturer stamps are visible on the bodies or the flat undersides of the bases.
