Another Great Auction
A collection of seven hand-painted glazed ceramic figurines from the Beatrix Potter series, manufactured by Beswick in England under licence from Frederick Warne and Co. Ltd. The collection includes Samuel Whiskers wearing a green coat and yellow waistcoat, Old Mr. Brown the owl with Squirrel Nutkin, Mr. Benjamin Bunny in a pink jacket, Peter Rabbit in a blue coat, a second Peter Rabbit in a blue coat bending over a yellow bowl, a mouse on a cotton reel reading a newspaper titled The Cutter, and Thomasina Tittlemouse resting on a leaf. The figurines are made of glazed earthenware with naturalistic colouring and a high-gloss finish. The undersides bear official factory backstamps in brown, including the series title BEATRIX POTTER’S, the character name, copyright information for F. Warne and Co. Ltd., and BESWICK ENGLAND. Some bases also feature hand-painted numerical decorator marks and specific copyright dates, including 1965 on the Mr. Benjamin Bunny figure.
