A 2021 United Kingdom 50 pence silver proof coin issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate John Logie Baird as part of the Innovation in Science series. Struck in .925 sterling silver, the coin features a reverse design by Amy Guy and David Knapton depicting concentric circles representing television waves or a scanning disc emitted from a transmission tower. The design includes a literal timeline of Baird’s life and achievements with the following inscriptions: JOHN LOGIE BAIRD TELEVISION PIONEER, 1888 John Logie Baird born, 1903-1906 Studies engineering, 1926 Demonstrates analogue television, 1928 First transatlantic transmission, and 1946 John Logie Baird dies. The initials AR and DK are positioned at the bottom edge. The obverse features the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The coin is housed in its original clear acrylic capsule and is presented in a black Royal Mint presentation case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity (931) and an Innovators in Science information booklet.
